Ikebana and Floral Workshops

Intimate, hands-on experiences designed to slow the body, open curiosity, and deepen one’s relationship with flowers.

Guided by the principles of ikebana and sculptural floral design, each session invites participants to explore movement, space, and intention through floral composition.

What to Expect
  • Begin your journey into ikebana by learning the foundational principles of Japanese flower arranging. Discover how each stem, angle, and negative space carries meaning rooted in centuries of tradition. You'll explore the philosophy behind ikebana's minimalist approach and understand how intentional placement creates balance, harmony, and emotional resonance in your arrangement.

  • Before touching a single stem, we gather to set intention. You'll write a personal meaning or word you wish to internalize, whether it's growth, release, gratitude, or transformation. This reflective practice becomes the invisible foundation of your arrangement, infusing your flowers with purpose. Share insights with fellow participants in a supportive creative environment where vulnerability is welcomed.

  • Watch Jennylyn demonstrate her approach to ikebana, breaking down technique with clarity and grace. See how to assess your materials, make decisive cuts, and place each element with confidence. Learn traditional kenzan (pin frog) techniques, vessel selection, and how to work with seasonal botanicals. This live demonstration demystifies the process and prepares you to create your own piece.

  • Now it's your turn. With guidance and encouragement, you'll arrange your own ikebana using carefully curated seasonal flowers and branches. Jennylyn provides individualized feedback, helping you refine angles, balance composition, and honor your original intention. Take your time, this is a meditative practice, not a race. Every participant leaves with a completed arrangement that reflects their unique vision.

  • The workshop culminates in a gentle group presentation where each participant shares their creation and the intention behind it. Professional photos capture your work in beautiful natural light, yours to keep and share. Leave with care instructions, ongoing support, and an open invitation to continue your ikebana practice. Many students return for seasonal workshops, building their skills and joining the Maarte Flowers creative community.
